The AIACE was created in 1969 by 35 former officials of various nationalities.
It has always worked to improve the well-being of all pensioners and endeavoured to nurture, in a spirit of friendship and good humour, the links among themselves and with the administrative services of the institutions.
On 14 June 2002, an agreement was signed between the AIACE, represented by its then President, Gerhard van den Berge, and the Commission, represented at the time by Vice-President Neil Kinnock. On 29 February 2008, a new agreement was signed by Vice-President Kallas and our President Ludwig Schubert.

SECTIONS
AIACE is represented in various Member States by a Section which groups the former officials according to their place of residence.
These Sections were originally six in number, corresponding to the six founding States of the European Union (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands). Nine more sections have since been added, namely Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and Austria.
New sections can be created in other countries if the number of potential members justifies it.
In 2018, AIACE had more than 12.000 members. The more numerous we are, the more representative we will be: join us and become a member. If you reside in a country where there is no section, contact the secretariat of AIACE-International directly.

YEARLY CONGRESS
The Congress is organised every year. This is also when the General Assembly meets. The first Congress took place in Luxemburg in 1970.
The Congress has a twofold aim: strengthen the ties of friendship that link the members of AIACE across Europe, and promote the knowledge of one of our countries. Besides, this is an opportunity to tackle together various issues regarding the interests of former officials, in the General Assembly.
